Why You Don't Lose Weight

by John Samalamign

Exactly why do many people fail at cutting down on their weight? Is it as they are lazy? No. Is it as they are dependent on food? No. Is it since they aren't great at exercising? No. Failure at weight loss is a result of a few main factors.

People seem to not realize the inherent risk that comes when they are overweight. What is probably the most common reason people have when it comes to trying to lose weight? Usually, it's to look better. This is a perfectly good reason for you to lose weight. Although, this should not be the primary reason for going on a weight loss program. The problem of being overweight has been responsible for the deaths of thousands of people each year. Studies have shown time and again that losing weight improves longevity and the quality of life.

People don't commit to permanent lifestyle changes. So many people think of a "diet" as something temporary. When they are on a "diet" they restrict themselves so much that they are miserable. Sooner or later failure is inevitable because of the unreasonable demands of most "diets." Some of these diets force you to only eat certain foods (e.g., no carbs, special soups etc...) You, like myself, have probably tried them before. The key to losing weight long term is to make gradual lifestyle changes you can stick to forever.

The facts of weight loss and health improvement are not given to a lot of people. The media presents plenty of conflicting data and there is plenty of diets that try to sell instant weight loss. So it's easy to imagine why people cannot easily distinguish how to get rid of fat and how to keep fat away.

People simply do not get that their bodies are either getting rid of fat or are putting on fat. And people tend to use any reason to give on on their diet and go on a food binge. For example, when I was fat, I would go ahead and have a big dinner because I already had an unhealthy lunch. I would also promise to start eating right on Monday because I had already ruined my diet during the weekend. Losing weight needs for people to make a lifestyle change.

Most people do not know how much they put into their bodies everyday. Overweight people will normally have eaten up thousands of calories and fat daily and they do not even know it. You cannot know if you are losing weight if you do not keep track of what you are eating.
