Why Long Term Weight Loss Is So Difficult For So Many People

by Chris O'Connor

Obesity in the United States Of America is at near epidemic levels, with a large number of those falling into the clinically obese category. There are 2 major contributory factors to this obesity epidemic. The first, is that people are eating too much, and eating the wrong sort of foods. The second factor is an almost complete lack of exercise. Both these things are lifestyle decisions that people make.

The long term answer is simple. Eat food that contains the right nutritional properties, and do sufficient exercises to build muscle and burn off unnecessary calories.

Naturally, for the most part it is straightforward to guess how people will respond to this solution. Most will say it is too tough to eat properly. They'll claim they're too busy to cook nutritious meals, and it takes too long.

Because people look for the simple solution they look for stuff like a weight-loss pill. It is the dream solution that most individuals desire, a pill that may melt fat away. Something that may make their body burn calories while they just sit around.

Of course for some people even a pill is not fast enough. They look for a doctor who will simply suck away all that revolting fat. But for the morbidly overweight they often need a surgeon who will staple their stomach, forcing them to lack the ability to eat as much food as they're used to. Only then they're going to lose weight.

But the difficulty is the issues that made these people overweight in the first place still remain. Nothing about the diet pill, the stomach stapling, or the liposuction has changed the way these people think about food. They still have the same food cravings, and still don't know what foods are best for them. And nothing about their instant fat loss has changed their attitude to exercise! The unavoidable result is that the fat will return. Maybe not for a few months. Maybe not for a few years. But it will return.

If the underlying problems remain unresolved then they will end up just like they were before they took those weight loss pills or had liposuction.
