Why following the Atkins Diet Might Be the Best Method To Lose Weight

The Atkins diet is a low-carbohydrate eating plan developed by Dr. Robert C. Atkins and is based on the assumption that eating too many carbohydrates leads to gains in weight. The Atkins diet is based upon the assumption because the body burns carbohydrates before fat for energy, reducing carbs and eating increased quantities of protein and fat will lead on to weight loss. When carbohydrate intake is reduced, the body starts to burn stored blubber.

When carbohydrate intake is reduced to a tiny part of the diet, the body enters a state called ketosis. Ketosis occurs when the body gets power from fuel, called ketones, made by the breakdown of excess fat. Somebody whose body is in ketosis feels less hungry. This reduced appetite causes the person to eat less. Atkins claims that over the passage of time after extraneous fat is burned, the body's metabolism returns to normal.

To follow the Atkins diet, most folks must consume less than 40 grams of carbs each day. For the first 2 weeks, carbs are restricted to only 20 grams each day. No fruits might be eaten, and only a few leafy green veggies are allowed. This harsh limitation is supposed to jump start weight loss. Although carbs are counted, calories are not counted.

After the 1st 2 weeks, the carbohydrate limit is increased thru foods fiber-rich. Fruits, veggies and whole grains might be added back into the diet slowly as long as weight loss continues. White sugar, milk, white rice, white flout pasta, white potatoes, and white flour bread remain forbidden for as long as weight loss upkeep is desired.

Once a person achieves the specified weightloss, people continue to consume carbs at a level that allows them to maintain their weight. The transition to a upkeep diet is gradual, allowing people to become used to a new way of eating that lasts for life. Because the Atkins diet concentrates on developing new eating habits, rather than limiting calories, a few of the people find that it is simpler to maintain long term weight loss following this plan.
