Common Obstacles to Weight Loss and How to Overcome Them

by Maxine Hart

Why is it that losing weight is so hard for many people? Sometimes, even when you do everything you've been told, such as going on a diet and exercising, you still can't seem to lose weight and keep it off. There can be a number of possible reasons for this, which we will be talking about in this article. There is no single solution for weight loss because what may work for others may not work for you, so you must be patient and you have to experiment until you will find your answers.

When it comes to losing weight, when you eat can be just as important as what and how much you eat. Many think that skipping breakfast is the best way to cut back on calories, which is actually a big mistake. Breakfast is actually the best time to eat a larger meal, and when you eat nothing, or just a muffin or donut in the morning, you're likely to eat more later in the day. In addition, eating late at night is not recommended. The later in the day you eat, the harder it will be to burn off those calories, so avoid eating meals within three hours of going to bed.

Typically, it is always a good idea to eat a large breakfast and slowly lessen food intake as the day progresses.

A lot of people discovered that drinking a glass of wine during dinner is a good way to reap its benefits. If you need to avoid alcohol, you can opt for Resveratrol-containing supplements or grape juices.

Many people eat significantly more calories than they think they do, which also makes it difficult to lose weight. Many foods are much more fattening than they appear. A salad bar can contain potato salads with mayonnaise, pasta salads and large portions of dressing, which have way more calories that you realize. You aren't always aware of what you are eating when you dine out, so it might be good to prepare more meals at home. You also may be eating larger servings than you realize, so when you serve yourself, especially foods like breads, pasta or desserts, pay extra attention to the size of your portions.

There can be tons of reasons why you're having a challenging time at losing weight, and we've only talked about a few of them here. Sometimes you have to be persistent and willing to try different approaches. If you have a sneaking suspicion that a medical issue might be your difficulty, talk to your physician and get tested for possible issues, such as a thyroid disorder. You can ascertain an approach for losing weight, once you identify the blockages in your way.
